Kol Isha ("A Woman's Voice")

This year our study is entitled “Searching for Meaning: Biblical Women’s Midrashim”. We will study stories that have been published over the years and create our own imagined accounts of what is left out of the written Torah text. One of the source books we will be using is "The Torah: A Women's Commentary" published by URJ Press. Everyone is welcome to participate. Kol Isha also sponsors a community Passover seder on April 23 at 6:00 p.m. Temple Micah members and non-members are welcome.

About Kol Isha

Kol Isha means "a woman's voice" and is open to all those who seek to deepen and enrich their Jewish knowledge and spirituality from a woman's perspective. It is a community of study and practice which explores Judaism's rich traditions and texts through the lens of women's energies, interpretations, and images of the divine.

Temple Micah Community Seder - April 23, 2010

During Passover Kol Isha sponsors the Temple Micah Community Seder for all members of Micah and their friends.  The service re-tells the Passover story through readings and songs from a Haggadah written and illustrated by Kol Isha members. Registration will be available beginning March 1st.

Most recently from September 2009 through May 2010, Kol Isha returned to direct exploration of Torah text. The Torah: A Women's Commentary (URJ/Women of Reform Judaism, 2008) served as the foundation for participant-led sessions. The focus was on women's voices and the role of gender in Jewish tradition and contemporary life.

In 2007-08 and 2008-09, Kol Isha explored post-Biblical Jewish women's contributions to society and to Judaism: Talmud, prayerbook, comparative theologies, contemporary literature, music, visual arts, social justice and health care; in conjunction with February 2009's building dedication, Kol Isha worked with Liz Lerman to explore dedication through movement.

The focus of study in 2006-2007 was God. In 2005-2006 it was Psalms, and in 2004-2005 it was Jewish mysticism and Kabbalah. In previous years Kol Isha has explored the laws of spiritual purity and the mikvah, studied the Matriarchs and Life Cycle events, and worked with Liz Lerman and the Dance Exchange on movement and spirituality.

Kol Isha meets monthly on Sundays from 1:00-3:30 downstairs in the social hall at Temple Micah unless otherwise indicated on the Temple calendar. Please send an email for more information.

Kol Isha is building an archives based on current and past discussions. Here's an opportunity to see some of what we do and, if you're so inclined, use our material as the catalyst for your own explorations in spirituality from a woman's perspective.
